    Cat5 Crossover cable

I bought the cross over cable, hooked it straight from my computer to the copiers ethernet port just to see if it would work that way, but it didnt. On one of the post on this thread, this is what he told me to try. Would this work if I programmed something? Do I have to buy the hub/switch? When I went to Radio Shack to get the hub/switch they didnt have one.

What do you think I should do? Still try and find this hub/switch? My question is this too. Can I use the ethernet crossover cat 5 cable directly to the copier but program something to get it to work?

    thanks so much

      gayle,

The crossover cable should work if you have properly configured the driver and printer. I would start by checking what IP address is on your PC, what IP address is set on the ports tab of the print driver, and what IP address is set on the printer. I think you'll find that one or more of those is set up incorrectly.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Crossover cable will work if you are connecting it to just one PC. DO NOT install the print driver until the Sharp is configured (IP address etc). Sharp print drivers will find the printer automatically.

Gayle, go to your PC, start menu, run, type: CMD, enter IPCONFIG /all.
That will let you know what IP address your PC is. (See above posts for examples).

Go to Sharp, press button to place in PRINT mode. Press menu to the side until you see ENABLE TCP/IP. Set for YES. Scroll until you get to DHCP, Set for NO, Scroll until you get to set IP address, put the address in that is very similar to your PC's. The only difference is that the last set of numbers should be different by one (ie 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 for example). The other numbers should be the same. Power off and on.

Now unzip the driver and run setup. The driver program should do trhe rest.

The Otrain: I wanted to ask you if when I press the (PRINT) BUTTON it's asking if the printer is online or offline, which is it? Also the computer I'm using has been the computer I was using when the sharp AR M208n was in a network with other computers. Now that its not networked, Im trying to print from my computer thru a crossover cat 5 cable to the sharp copier straight in. should I still reinstall the drivers? I have the disk that came with the sharp copier. I have the digital laser copier/printer, printer utilities & the sharp v3.2 network scanner utilities? Which one do I install for the drivers? Or do I need to reinstall the drivers since I was using this computer before>

          Thank you very much.
