    MX5500N Noise

We have an MX-5500N that's giving a loud buzzing noise around the fuser. It doesn't do it if you run the fans or fuser motor, but sounds like it's coming from that area. It's like a motor is locked up, but there are no jam codes or error codes. When I went I never heard it, but two of my techs have. They can't seem to track it down & both are pretty good techs. Just kinda fishing.
    Thanks for any help.
    Hope that helps !

    Tony,

Did you run the fuser motor test in sim 6-01 when it was hot or cold?
You will get totally different sounds out of those fuser units when hot and cold.
Cant say I've had the same thing, but check the web drive motor and fuser drive assembly.
Take another fuser unit with you and test it compared to the original one.

Have your guys had alot to do with the C-dragons? They are a noisy machine to start with. Are they panicing about noises which are actually normal? You possibly haven't heard it because you know the machine and what it sounds like.

    still thinking.......

No, my techs say it's really loud. Sounds like a step motor locked up ?? He said it'll do it exiting to the right, but not left and not all the time.
      Hope that helps !

If exiting to the right side tray is making the noise, the only difference there to a normal double-sided page is the diverting gate/solenoid and motor to pass the paper straight through instead of down into the ADU and side door. Run the motor tests in the ADU in sim 9. I'd say there is a problem in one of the motors in the side door. Maybe a problem in the motor bushings, which would explain it working only sometimes.

As for the fuser units $$, I have no problem with that. Always got a new one or a full refurb in the car ready to go. Sure makes diagnosing weird noise issues easier.

              Tony,

You sure got a weird taste in music my friend!! That download was simply mental.

Let me know how you go with the C-Dragon. I'm curious to what it would be.

You didn't like the tunes ???
I went there myself today. It was definitely coming from the upper right side. I tried running all the fans & motors, Nothing !! Ran some pages & it started buzzing loud. Looked at all the motors in the manual. I said it's got to be in a motor that's not in sim 6-1 or 2. You were correct. I ran 43-31 & the cleaning web motor was the cause of the noise. That would explain the intermittentcy of the noise.
Thanks for the help as always.

Let me kow if you'd like some more music !!

Tunes by Tony.... I'll give it a miss at the moment... thanks anyways mate. You got some whack music dude.

If you are changing the web drive motor, make sure you get the new drive gear part (black gear instead of white). It is a stronger plastic. There is a bulletin on it. You should have it.
