    FNX1 Inner Finisher Harness Replacment

So i got a MX2300 inner finisher here with the F1-xx errors which is related to the staplers harness being worn and causing eratic error codes. Does any body know a neat little trick to getting this harness out. It goes inbehind a frame through a cut out, into a wire holder which you can't actully see (saw the clip from the bottom) and then makes another turn going down the track to the staple unit. The only thing i can see you can do is tear out the entire back side of the finisher. Every body ive talked to has said it's a 2+ hour job and a real pain in the ass. ive got it pulled apart a bit trying to find a easy way and it's not looking good.

Who ever dreamed this baby up needs to fall onto his sword

I had same issue. Took me about 2 1/5 hours with a lot of swearing under my breath. I ended up fishing the harness through the cut out you mentioned. I agree that somebody had a twisted mind to design the harness this way.

      finisher harness

Just make sure you have lots of space and if your forgetfull take a pic or two as you take it apart and note the routing of the harnesses as well cause it can be a pain if you don't.

        Yes, it is a pain.

I have sent you a service bulletin to your email, which may help you, as it has all the updated parts & settings as well.

When the new firmware fix for this came out, we upgraded every single one of them ASAP. Those which were upgraded, never have had the issue to this day. I know one client who has just done 1.2Mil on their MX4500N, with 550K on the staple count.... never had the harness break (new firmware was put on before delivery).

As the other guys have said, it is a pain, you need alot of space around you, and there isn't many short-cuts you can take.

I've done 4 myself over the years these have been out, all done in the safety of the workshop.

          try this

This job can be done in the field under an hour
          the trick is
1 no need to remove the FNX1 main board
2 remove the wire holder by cutting the 2 visible parts and pushing it into the inner frame. You can then fish it out the right side using a spring hook
3 remove the staple unit, cut all the connectors off the end of the old harness, pull all but 2 or 3 of the wires through the frame and out.
4 tie the main board connector of the new harness to one of the remaining old wires and use it to pull the new harness carefully through the frame.
presto the hard part is done.
no need to worry about the harness clip as there are no moving parts in the gap between the frames.

          cheers

            Cool............. Nice fix mate!

Probably wont get the opportunity to replace that loom again as the firmware definitely prevents this problem happening, but will give this a go if the case arises.
            Didnt even think of it!

Wish he would have posted a vid on youtube, been nice to see it done
I got a harnes job comming my way, but in my case, the stapler is showing add staples, checked voltages as per service manual, at I think its TP 53, I get 0, that zero volts there, wether staple cartrige is in or out, tried a different stapler unit, same thing, checked some other FNX1's to see which sensor it is, well its built into the stapler itself, but I know which one changes state.
So going to be doing a harness and firmware update soon.
