    MX-3501N Toner Spillage

I've got a MX-3501N that has Toner (Cyan Only) spillage on the inside of the back of the Unit. It comes down showing on Tray-One. Checked DV & Toner - all is, or appears to be tight. Thinking it is the Toner Transport Pipe Unit.

    Anyone come across this before?

I'd be more thinking a previous cyan drum was very worn on the rear edge and was pulling excess toner, therefore dropping down at the rear side, near the LSU shutter arm. A new drum has since been fitted, but there is still excess toner sitting there from the previous drum. Any large amount of toner sitting in that area would fall down into the back of tray1, just with gravity & the LSU shutter arm constantly moving back & forth.

Have never had a problem with a 'leaking' toner transport pipe..... just some blockages over the years, which were easily fixed (but didnt cause any toner leakage through machine).

Best thing would be to take all drums/dev units & transfer belt unit out and vac everything. Get a torch and have a good look around in the back of the process area.

Would not having changed out the Primary Transfer Belt cause this as an issue? The PTBelt has been changed but not recently - in terms of clicks.

I can almost guarantee that the Primary Belt unit has nothing to do with this.
If your toner spill is concentrated on just one color, you must look at just those color components/consumables being at fault either now or previously. If you had a belt failure, it would be a different color smudging and even if the edges of the belt had a small tear in them, it would be spilling waste toner from the cleaning unit/cleaning blade, in a different area, most likely over the rego/PS unit or the back of all drum/dev units.

Still thinking it is a toner buildup from a previous worn drum.
