    Remote Email Diagnostics

Do any of the Sharp Dealers make use of the diagnostics side of RED? I understand that there is a reader available so we can get data extracted out of the DAT files. A couple of questions - (1) Is this any good (2) where can we get it from (3) is it worth the cost. We are in a very remote location and any information I can glean other than the standard "I've Jammed 20 times in the last two days but I'm gonna let you guess where" email system would definitely be of use. We have lots of machines that are >100 miles away in every direction, & having to carry everything to every call "just in case", is getting pretty old - So tell me about your experiences with the Sharp RED system.

    Thanks

I would be interested also; we enable RED and use it to get meter counts only. We do not have the reader to see jam or trouble codes.

We tried to use it for fax diagnostics for a while. The problem was that it would cause a logic lockup on the machine which required a power cycle that you can't do remotely. After 10 or so tries I gave up on it. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Are you talking about the FAST program or the reader for RED? We get just the email with the meter counts, but I don't see how that would lock up the machine.

You are correct. FAST is a mis-nomer. They should call it STOPPED DEAD. =^..^=

Never did like that program or use it more than a couple of times. I think Sharp had good intentions, but it wasn't quite there.
I would still like to know about the reader; the emails we get have 6 image type files (which we can't read) and extensive counter information (b/w, color, prints, scans, copies, and doc filing).

Ive never got ahold of the reader but one thing to keep in mind when you do this. When setting the copiers up we would put our email address in the dealer part of the alert messages. Then meter readings were becomming hit and miss. I think the files that are attached some times get killed by spam filters depending on how they get to your email so we stopped using the dealer section and just put our readings email into one of the customer spots.
