    Sharp MX4101N

    Hello Everyone,

I have a fax issue with a sharp 4101N that I've got installed at a customer location. The problem only occurs when the machine is receiving faxes (not sending). When receiving it will freeze up and the machine will need to be power cycled in order for the fax to work again. Size of the fax is not an issue as it has happened on 1 page incoming faxes.

There are no errors displayed on the display panel of the machine. When looking at the fax error log the machine froze on the following error codes.

    21-0015
    46-0000
    01-0000
    07-0000

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have turned off ECM.

    thanks

I know this sounds weird but make sure it is set to Auto receive. We have had this cause odd problems. I know weird.

Make sure firmware is current for the fax kit & engine. Make sure the fax memory module is fitted in the correct spot on the MFP. Run a 66-10 fax memory clear and try again.

Is the fax line the one that came directly from sharp with 2pins or is it a 4 pin phone type if it's a 4 pin that's more than likely the issue.Had it here about 20 times now when a customer needs a longer line I make them.It creates line noise and inteference th extra 2 wires give an antenna effect.Try it .

That is very interesting. Never had this problem before. We have clients using any old phone cable without any problems on all Sharp fax kits. Maybe the phone lines in Australia dont have this effect. Will keep it in mind though. Thanks.

I've had the same thing. My thing was that the line was coming out of the wall with the RJ11 connector on it. I ended up going to Radio Shack & picking up a $2 junction to join the 2 wire line to the 4 wire line. The thing that threw me was they've had an AR-M550N with the fax for the last 5 years with no problem. I stick the MX4100N with the fax board in & it doesn't work. From now on, I'll check all the lines & make sure they're 2 wire. Also always use the supplied cord & cores like you said.
                Hope that helps !

                  Hey Guys,
So far turning ECM off seems to have corrected the issue. All Firmware is up to date and the Fax/phone cable is a 2 pin cable. I am running it through an ESP device. If it comes back I will be sure to let you all know!

This is a really big issue with HP fax machines (IE M3035, M3027, M2727, M1522)! If you use a 4 pin cable there are usually issues! Just a heads up for you all

yeah.I guess thats why the manufacturers ship them with thew 2 pin connectors. It's fairly coomon around here to get issues with the 4 pin variety

I can't see ECM locking up the machine. Check your settings in Sim 26-6 and make sure your location is set correctly and also make sure your fax location is set properly in sim 66-2. As Wazza said make sure your memory is in the proper spot on the MFP. They move the slot around from model to model.

                          Hey Lawrence,

Both sim 26-06 and 66-02 are set correctly. The fax memory is installed correctly, (double checked with installation guide). It's been a week since we turned off ECM and not a problem since.

In my experience turning off ECM shouldn't do anything unless it not an analog line. Slowing down modem speed and disabling ECM improves digital/voip connections. But if it took care of your problem, we'll go with it.
