    Hi, Peter.
As far as our country, most local company can't afford their own private servers and bandwidth speed limited.
So, it is difficult to setup scan-to-email for them. Unless your customer is a big company and has their own servers.
For what I do was, scan to PC desktop and manually attach document to emails. It's pretty much the same. Only extra 1 step.
And I'm sure there are already pretty much alot threads regarding this setup. Why don't you do a little search around the forum.

If you have the N model, use the RUI to: Setup>Network Settings>E-mail. HOWEVER - We normally just use their copies of Sharpdesk as most people would like to send a note with the attachment.

The AR-M450 doesn't have a place for authentication (username & password) for SMTP. Unless the mail server will allow an unauthenticated connection (most will not) you'd have to get a program to relay it. You could try www.stunnel.org It will encrypt the connection, not sure about adding authentication. Like the previous poster stated, scanning to Sharpdesk might be the best way to go.
          Hope that helps !

I have recently been trying to figure this out. I have been working with a ARM280 with no luck. Like the earlier poster said they don't have the smtp authenication. But Does anyone know how to scan to a Macintosh with this series? We have tried to create an ftp folder on the mac with no luck.

The only way that I have gotten it to work with Macs is to use the scan to email feature but I am using an ARM455N not the older series.

Yep, the 455N has authentication for email where the 450N doesn't.
