Yes, but you will need to activate User Authentication. Unfortunately, this will mean the operation panel will be locked for everyone, even B/W users, so all users/departments will need a pin number to log in to use the machine as a copier, and same pin numbers installed in the driver to enable correct printing/user counts. The MX machines have been designed as either no security, or full security. Can't do half and half. Just setup the color permissions for the users who can have access to color copy/print. If you want the documentation on setting this up, let me know.
There is firmware for the MX machines that will allow B/W use only without logging in (same as the Whale series), but there will be no upgrades for it. Unforunately at this stage, it doesnt cover the Pastel 2 machine you have (yet).
I have a PDF that explains how to setup authentication so when you walk up to the copier B/W ready to use. When you want color you hit log out and type in a code to have access to B/W & color. When your done with the color you hit the log out button and the B/W account gets automatically logged back in. I have set it up for many customers and it works pretty slick.
Lawrence... while your at it, send it to me as well dude.... please. You have my email.
As far as I was aware, Pastel2's couldn't do this function. All the first series MX's had it included in a special 'one-off' firmware revison for this purpose only. I cant see anything on this subject for the Pastel2's or C-Jupiter2's here. Is this a Canadian/US firmware thing?

Here ya go Wazza. Not sure if it's a US thing or not. If you can't do it, let me know if you need the firmware & I'll get it to you.
Thanks alot Tony & Lawrence. Your info on this is something that the Australian support site just doesnt have yet. For once, we dont have this info...... interesting.......
Yep, thanks Bani. I did say that I knew the special firmware wasn't for this series of machines. I know what you are talking about though.
We only installed that as a test in the workshop to see how it would work on the C-Jupiter's, but never installed it in the field. We knew it wasnt worth it, considering that new firmware revisions would solve future problems, compared to just having a client logging in as B/W only. Any benefits were outweighed completely.
Thanks for the info guys. Our IT guys will love this.
