    AR-M355N scanner help Please

i have this sharp printer at home thru usb connected to computer.. not on a network, .. i am on windows xp 32 bit (also need info for windows 7 and vista pro 32 bit if different please).. i can print from my computer.. but i dont think i can scan to it... when i insert something in my HP printer a screen pops up on my computer and asks me what i want to do, i select scan, and go thru the motions... with this one i cant do anything except print to it... is there additional software i have to download in order for something to pop up and ask me what i want to do? if not, how can i scan something to my computer? i have no interest on saving something on the printers hard drive... reading some posts on this site it mentioned accessing the hard drive thru an ip address.. not sure if i have to do that for any reason?

also, i purchased this used, and just noticed there are names, ftp sites, old emails.. all in the hard drive on the printer.. is there a way to delete it? or maybe it would be best to take back to default factory settings.. if so how do i do that?

    thanks for the help fellas

You can only scan through the ethernet port, not USB. Once it's on the network, you can access the web page & delete all the info you'd like.
    Hope that helps !

You can set up a simple network with a crossover cable between the computer and copier or if you have a hub/router you can use a regular ethernet cable. You can find the operators guides for this machine at sharp.ca manuals. They have a very comphrensive list of operator manuals, not only for copiers but all kinds of sharp equipment.

Once you get to the web page go to destination management, login is admin and password is Sharp (case sensitive) and then you can delete the profiles that you want.

For scanning you will need to use Sharpdesk (not free but you can find it online sometimes) or download the twain driver and use that. I've never had very much use for the twain driver but have only set it up a couple of times that way.

      Good luck.
