    MX-M620N - Scanning to PDF / TIFF

    Hi All,

We've ran into a very strange problem, and i'm wondering if anybody maybe has a route for me to take, or has seen this before.

We use our Sharp MX-M620N to scan files to PDF and TIFF.

We use a vendor's automated windows service to transport the PDF/TIFFs to other folders and to "upload" into a document storage solution.

The problem we've run across is we're getting a lot of files becoming corrupted when it lands in our storage area.

We've determined the corruption happens because:

a.) the scanner does not lock out the file during creation
b.) our service picks up the file before the file is completed

Basically this leads to the service being able to pick up a "copy" of the PDF, before the file is finished being scanned/created. This is a huge problem for obvious reasons.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this or a work around? We're going to try to pass the file over FTP to the correct location, but other than that, any ideas?

Anything related to this would probably help us at this point.

    Thank you,
    -Scott

Is the main problem here, that the scanner detects that the scan job has finished, even though there are more pages still on the doc feeder?

No the problem is the file being created, is essentially telling windows it's movable.

Are you using Sharpdesk, SMB or FTP to scan ?
        Hope that helps !

I would make sure the firmware is the latest on the MFP. Then, I would try switching your SMB folder to a different PC to eliminate possible packet loss due to switch, cable, PC issue etc. I wouldn't think the MFP would release the document to folder until it's complete, but I'm not sure of the process. I'd then change the poll schedule of the folder to less frequently if possible to lessen the chance of it grabbing an incomplete transmission.
            Hope that helps !

              • There is no firmware from what we've been able to find.

              • The problem is consistent between all configurations. We have the same machine deployed at several different locations and all experience this flaw. And we do not experience this same issue with our RICOH brand MFPs - in the same setup.

              • We do a lot of scanning (home mortgage lender), so regardless of the timer we set for the service to pick up a file, there's no way to guarantee that more files wont be coming in just as the timer is finishing.
                • e.g. Our timer picks up every 60 seconds, and at second 59 somebody begins to scan. I'm glad to at least be getting some feedback. Thanks for the effort so far.

The firmware is updated by a service tech. Its not something that end-users have access to. If your machine is on a service contract, please request this to be done on the next visit.

I haven't had anything to do with a service that obtains scans before, so you've lost me on this one, but if there is one person who will be able to sort this out.... Its Tmaged!

How does regular scanning to email or network folder go?

Why don't you use SimplifyScan as a intermediate step. That makes sure you files are completed before posted at the right ftp location.

We have'nt had any related problems since use of SimplifyScan (or INVU).
