    Sharpdesk Problems

Yes the work stations are on DHCP that has caused the same problem for me many times. Alsoyour must turn off the firewall on installation, then turn it back on.

Found issue that may help with Sharp scan too and Windows 7l

The main issue that I have encountered as well that Windows 7 Machines do loose the ability of scanning over time. The way I was able to resolve the issue was to make sure that the network type is not set to "PUBLIC" which mine was and so since the change the scanning has worked. It has to be set to Home or Work (preferred) for the firewall to stop blocking port addresses after a MS update has run.

      Good Luck.

PS I have all staitc IP's on this network and still had the same issue until I changed the network type to Work.

Do the problem PC's have Windows Live Essentials installed? I have seen Win7 PC knock out scanning with this feature installed.
Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

          Sharp Scanning

All the systems that are in the networks I work on do not have the MS essentials and we try to avoid extra software for performance reasons. The one thing that you can look at even if you have DHCP enabled, is that the scanner interface keeps track of the machines by there MAC address. When you setup the user via the Network Scan Tool it will address either by Auto or by IP. Most often it is Auto so it will address the machines by other means. This allows for the DHCP but if at all possible use Static IP's for a small network.
Once you have that setup look at the web interface for the Sharp product you are using and you can look at the user info specific and see that the address listed or the file directory location is using the MAC address to identify the computer to which it sends the data.

Biggest thing to remember when setting up a network with Windows 7 is that the type of network you set eg. Work, Home or Public will determine the security level established by the MS firewall.

Has anyone figured this out yet? I am finding similar issues with Win 7 and NST.
Most recently, a Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit PC says there is an error with the Network Scanner Configuration Tool, searched for a solution, and but with nothing found. I noticed this PC doesn't have SP1, so I recommended they update and reinstall SharpDesk. BTW, it's v 3.3. I made sure it was not blocked in Windows Firewall, and set for Home/Work, not public. Right now I am waiting for them to let me know the PC has been updated.
Previously at this same account, a Win 7 Pro 64-bit had 3 instances of the NST in the firewall, some blocked and some allowed; at least one was in Public. I deleted two of the three instances and, voila, it worked. Actually, I believe I left the Public one, because the firewall was set for Public location. However, I'm told it's doing it again, so they are having their IT check the firewall settings before having me bill them.
I am curious as to what version Win 7 you guys were having problems with, and if they are similar issues with Network Scan Configuration Tool not starting? I know about the DHCP IP address change scewing things up - that's been happening since SharpDesk was released, as well as the firewall blocking issue.
            Thanks for your input.

Hi! I don't know the version of the Win7 off the top of my head. But we will check with the Customer who will have to get in touch with their IT People who are out of State. So it may take a day or two to find out. I will let you know as soon as I know. Thanks. Daniel

This is under the software section of IDNC.
                Hope that helps !

Right. Got the 3.3 update installed. There is also the 3.3 CD download on IDNC that I haven't used yet, but I would think it is the full version, not requiring an update of the original version. I'll check it out.
Again, this is one of those cases that SharpDesk 3.3 has been installed and working for months, and then all of a sudden Windows 7 up an error when they try to start NST that the "Network Scanner Configuration Tool has stopped working" and Windows is looking for a solution. Looks like a reinstall is the place to start, and then wait and see.

Yes, the one on IDNC is the full version. I'd do it, rather than the update for the older one.
                        Hope that helps !
