Changed fuser units on MX-M700U image feels a little raised or gritty and

Did Pm on 2 Sharp MX-M700U. Changed drum, developer and maint. kits. Changed fuser units (MX-705Fu1). Image feels a little raised and gritty.

Also changed paper empty actuator on tray 1 as old one's head was broken off and machine thought paper tray still empty when full. After changing I tried to test by selecting tray 1 and received message in display that "tray selected was prohibited".

    Any help is appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

By chance, is it possible that a Key Operator went under Device Control and disabled the cassette from operation? I am sure you checked this on the new fuser units, but I will mention it anyway, did you remember to loosen the fuser pressure springs before making copies? I have done this and I see ghosting images afterward.

    Just a thought.

    Take care,

    Ray

I did not loosen pressure springs. I was not aware that i had to. I just looked to to see if there was anything that need to be removed. I have never changed them before and first time servicing this model. Is that the two large phillips screws facing the outside of machine that need to be loosened? If so I need to go back. I can check the system settings about whether or not tray 1 was disabled in settings.

You can loosen the two screws with the fuser installed in the machine. Small Stuby Phillips will do the trick. I never rebuild these in the field because they take so long compared to other machines. If a Key Operator knows what they are doing they can disable devices by simply checking or unchecking the listed device.

One more thing, be sure to loosen the screws completely. They will "float" but will not fall out. It may take several copies on each machine to clear the excess toner on the rollers depending on the number of copies that the customer may have run.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier.

              Yep, Tennwalker is spot on.

The screws in questions are just the pressure release screws for storage/transportation. They never need to be touched again once loose.

Also, if by chance that the key op hasn't touched the tray settings to disable it, then you'll need to run sim 15 to clear any trouble codes or tray lock you might have had. Sim 15 is for the LCC (including the large tandem trays 1&2 on that machine).

I loosened the pressure spring screws and everything okay now. I entered the system settings and tray one printer and copier boxes were not checked. After checking boxes it copied from tray 1. Thanks again. Frank
