    Sharp MXM350n gray background

I have been fighting this for awhile now
This machine will intermittently spit out a gray background (dirty look)
I have PMed this machine new developer new drum Ka1 kit etc.
I had noticed the sim 25-2 readout was at a low 79 to 83 and I know it should be higher!
The last thing I did was install a new developer unit with new developer and the reading was still at the same 79 to 83 range?
Any and all input would be helpful.

Hows the temperature & humidity near this machine? And what are the firmware levels at?

Extreme temp & humidity changes & environment will cause this. Some changes in firmware were made not long ago to help compensate for this.
Also, check that you have the modified dev drive spring (parts guide section 4, item 4). This was changed in August 2008.

Picking apart your post technically, you did not mention that you did a developer initialization...

You had only said you changed it.

i'm having exactly the same problem.

Tech goes in for bad CQ. He changed drum, dv etc. but noticed that the value after dev. init. was around 80.

1 week later, same customer called for dirty copies.

I go on site, checked sim 25-1...reading of 69. Tried to change DV again , cleaned dv sensor and firmware update but same result as the first time for a value of 80.

Ordered and changed DV and DV unit... same thing, 80 after dv init.

I manually set the value of my dv init. to 90 something to see how it goes but im pretty sure problem will come back in a few days.

If you find something, let me know.

What dev are you using? Must be AR455, not AR450.

          Wrong dev will do this.

                    OK,
                    Here is the SKINNY!
I am a Ricoh tech by trade! However we have a salesman that insist! (with his inside contacts) that he sells these?
My next question to you is, Do you find it easier to replace that spring you spoke of, easier to replace via (taking the screw out of the inside of the coupler from the inside?
                    I value your opinion!
                    Thanks

Yeah, you can get the spring out, no 'major' drama's.

                      Shoot me your email.

By the way, you are spot on about 25-02. Replace the dev, reset counters for dev & dev rotation (extremely important step I forgot to mention......), restart & run 25-02. Dev should setup good.
