    Sharp AR-M550N Will Not Boot-up

IU am working on a Sharp AR-M550N. It will not boot out of the start-up screen and even flashes a couple of times. What can be the problem?

You do anything with the boot and main chips on the mfp board?

If they were switched around, that can cause the machine to hang. The boot chip should be in the top slot, main chip in the middle.

There are a lot of things that could cause this. Have all connectors have been reseated, and AC voltage in checked? Have you tried re-flashing the the ROMs? You could try powering up with the HDD disconnected, it might boot up with an error code. Let us know what you have done, so we can narrow down the help you need.

if it is locking up at the sharp screen with stars, then it is more than likely a defective HDD, thats just from my experience have seen it several times

Remove the connectors to the HDD and see if it boots. It will then give you a HDD error. If it does then replace HDD, if not then could be anything. If so, remove all peripherals from the box and try again. If nothing then the ICU could be the culprit. At that point anything goes. ICU, ROM's, etc. hopefully you won't need to go that far. I had a similar thing happen and it was the ADF that hung the machine. Good luck!

I've had this problem when a customer has left a USB stick in the machine when they were scanning to the flash drive. Actually had it for MX3501 and MX2300 but the freezing you explained seems like it could be something as simple as this. Machine is trying to update firmware but the drive is formatted differently and creates a lock up loop.
