    Sharp AR-157E L1 code

Can an L1 error code on a Sharp AR-157E be caused by a damaged ribbon cable? I ask because the ribbon cable is bunched up under the scanner and it doesn't appear to be right like that. Also, if this is the problem, will the ribbon cable from a Sharp AL-1631 work in this copier? Any help appreciated, thank you.

The L1-00 code is caused by the scanner not being able to reach home position. The ribbon cable can prevent the scanner from reaching home position. Also dirty scanner rails can cause this. Even more likely, the scanner lock has just been turned, preventing the scanner from moving. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Also check the 2 small black plastic covers that protect the ribbon cable. Sometimes these will come loose and jam the machine, they are held in place by some packing tape. I have had this problem on a couple of these models. I believe the ribbon cables for these 2 models are interchangeable.

      Good luck.

As posted above, those are probably the issue. Were the ribbon cable connects to the CCD, they put a small bit of that stringy packing tape. Ive seen that peel back and then when the scanner moves back and forth the tape sticks to the slack ribbon cable and then starts backing it all up.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
