AR-337 General help & pointers setting up print and scan

I still have quite a few of these old cougars out there that I sold / or under lease contracts.
I never messed with networking one of these, but have all the hardware off of several machines piled up in the shop.
I'm a self-employed tech. and usually pay someone else to help with networking the equipment.
I have one account that has their own IT guy that wants to hook up the print & scan on a Sharp AR-337, seems like I remember some stories that the print/scan systems on these series machines had lots of issues, or will it work fine ???

I'm looking for some pointers and general instructions in set-up to pass along to the IT guy to see if we can get the machine up and going to print and scan.

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated, THANKS

These units do not have an executable file to setup with like the most current versions. Saying that they are not too difficult to setup. Since you are installing used print controllers be sure to reset the NIC before you try to set it up. I have had to do this in every case that I have come across with this series. Then give it a static IP address. When you set up the driver you will need to use RAW with port 10001. If you have a Citrix network you will have to play with the port settings to get it to work properly (the default 9100 worked on the system I did). Sharpdesk should work just fine if you have the ARNS1 or 2 product key enabled. If you don't have the product key then you are out of luck on the scan ability.

    Good luck.

Thanks, this is all foreign to me...

Is Sharpdesk like Toshiba's FYI center or what?

How does the product key work associated with the scan ability?

Will the AR-337 scan to file and scan to e-mail like others ?

It will scan to 'desktop' with the aid of Network Scanner Tool (in SharpDesk package), scan to FTP, MAY scan to email provided you can use port 25 for outgoing mail?
Don't let your customers expect much from the print controller. Even maxed on RAM the process time for files over 20 pages can be lengthy, especially if you try to duplex. PostScript driver may make PDF's print better, but we had our best luck with processing using the PCL5 driver.
