    Sharp MX-3501N - PS Issue

Got a Sharp MX-3501N - and am trying to print to a MAC w/10.6.8 version. When I go to print in comes up with an Error - Paused Print - along with showing that it needs Toner, OPC Drums, DV.

I called Sharp Tech Support - they are telling me that Mac has an issue with their Operating System. Thing is that the Client has an HP 8550 where there is no issue printing with any Program that needs PS.

Anyone run into this before or know of a fix? This is the first time I have not been able to get something to work on a Sharp.

By the way, there are fixes that we tried on-line with that did not work - changing the line of info that is supposed to disable the Notices. We downloaded a patch that did not work either.

I am at wits end. Spent 4-hours trying to get this to work -

It did print with one of Adobes programs put that was it.

    Any help appreciated!!!

I'm assuming it has the PS kit installed ? Was it working in this location previously ? 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) is only a month old. You could also try using the HP driver.
    Hope that helps !

The PS Fonts in Mac are more recent then the ones delivered in the CD for download. This is a fresh install - used machine, new client. That PS Driver was just Fonts and Read this info.

You have the PS expansion kit on the MFP ? I always use the drivers that are the most current on the MFG's site.

I don't have any Sharp's on Snow Leopard yet, but have 1 workstation I'm having trouble with SMB scanning. It was working before the upgrade.
        Hope that helps !

          The MXPK1 has been installed.

I think the attached is the fix - won't know until tomorrow.

This looks like it would work, but you need to go back to MAC OS 10.7 then add in the fix that is shown on the link.

Interesting. Were you getting the error on the MFP or the workstation ? SNMP is the only protocol that would report the supply error etc.
            Hope that helps !

The problem is with some broken files in /usr/libexec/cups/backend. The solution is to restore the following files in the backend folder of the 10.6.6 or 10.6.7 versions:

              socket
              dnssd
              lpd
              ipp

Or simply go to web page of copier and disable SNMP

Re: Sharp MX-3501N - PS Issue

'Developeris empty / OPC drum is end of life' message displayed on a Apple Mac is a problemwith Apple's latest OS update (update to OS 10.6.8) and is NOT a machine issue.
Customer should be advised as such.

Below is a work-around, and is not a permanent fix. It will disable anyreporting of consumable levels such as toner to the printer driver, andautomatic detection of printer driver when adding printer in Apple MAC.

On the machine webpage, Select SECURITY SETTINGS, then PORT CONTROL,find the SNMPD option, and change the value next to it to DISABLE.Press SUBMIT
Reboot the machine and client will need to re-install driver on the Apple Mac'sonly.

A permanent fix will need to be sourced from Apple in the form of a OS updateand at this stage, there is no ETA.

                Hope that helps !

This is an issue for almost every vendor right now.

The most confusing part is just how hit or miss it is, where some apps print OK, some folks use the ppd edit, etc...

Some printers don't show under Bonjour with 10.6.8; Fieries seem have that issue.

Anyway, here is a script (1068_fixdmg_170.dmg) that will roll back the four files listed above to version 10.6.7.

I checked out the link in one of the above posts, which looks like it will do the same thing, but it assumes that 10.6.8 was an upgrade install from 10.6.6 or 7, which may or may not be the case. This file includes the older versions that are needed.

If that somehow doesn't work, (backend_restore_983.dmg) will restore the files to the 10.6.8 versions.

                    Symptom:
Jobs held when printing to MAC 10.6.8 and also warning messages.
                    Cause:
PPD driver not functioning well with the new 10.6.8 Mac OS.
                    Action:
                    5) Reinstall the driver and try them.
