[CQ] MX2700N bw print and copy

    Hi

I have mx2700n that prints and copies in bw extremely poorly. Printout is really pale and letters are as washed out. If I print printer test page from unit (pcl test page) letters in word sharp on top of page are missing toner and appear as non consistent gray.

Print and copy in color is fine with black color as it should be. If I print text and send it as color then text is black and printed ok. If I send same document as bw (or grayscale) it prints out wit bad quality.

        Hi

my first reaction was to try to replace dv unit (and dv). But I still got same result. Toner save option I doubt that it is source of problem since internal printout is bad (like sim64-05 or 22-06). Drum unit might be a problem but color printout is just fine.

I'm still bashing my head over this.

Just to test swap the magenta drum with the black and see if the black improves and the magenta becomes faded. Make sure to swap them back after.

I agree with Lawrence as it is easy to swap complete drum units (note that color developer units don't swap just the drum units) Part of the drum unit is the main charge screen grid unit. Often, we have had -even before drum is exhausted- the screen on the charge get heavy build up on it. A MC charge kit retails for around $45-$50.

If that screen grid is clouded over etc., you will get uneven copy. Some areas can be very light or faded out.

So once again swapping entire drum unit will at least zero in on area.

Note that if you replace the MC Charge unit, be careful on putting but the rear end cap
            1. make certain the tabs go into the slots and that the cap in flush all the way around.
2.Then the DC array( long clear plastic rod/shaft on the inside of the charge unit) when you put it back together make certain the the rear aligns with the slot.
3.Additionally, the black foam in areas tends to rot/"melt" so when you slide the charge into the rear, we have had a number of these have the end of the clear plastic shaft get covered with the gook of the deteriorated foam. So have a Q Tip ready to clean that.
            4. We have had techs miss that the drum blade slips in between the red felt so take note taking drum blade out as to positioning.

One final thought is that we have had several of these boxes have issues with the toner clogging in the pipe between the toner and DV. So that may be a final area to check.

All in all really a fairly easy machine to service and access everything.

            Good fortune with it!!
