[Misc] Your Thoughts on Sharp MX-M950N machines

    Hello All,

We are installing several used MX-M950N machines, (average counter 1.2 million) for use in a few high schools nearby. We deal mostly with MX-M700N, MX-M450N,and MX-3501N style machines, in general, they all seem to perform very well. We have found that the finishers used by the MX-M700's in the high schools have a high failure rate concerning the stapler units and some skewing involved, but considering the high volume and staple rates on each job, it is understandable.

I just wanted to know your opinion concerning reliability in a high school environment for the MX-M950N? I enjoy reading the various posts concerning the Sharp equipment and have been servicing Sharp equipment for over 20 years. However, I find that I am not able to contribute as much as I would like for fear of leading someone astray. Perhaps, I just need to jump in and offer a little friendly advice.

    Thank you for your opinions.

they are an excellent machine provided the pms are carried out correctly. No great problems with our fleet. paper quality has to up to spec.

The Hercules series is without doubt the best mono machine that Sharp has ever produced. Sure, the finishers are a rich, but the engine is freakin brilliant! Many have over 5 million in just 2 years.

The biggest issue is cheap paper causes a lot of issues, such as paper sticking to the drum instead of the transfer belt, and dusty optical sensors. All good quality papers work excellent.

Absolutely the best thought, tech friendly machine made. Full friggin stop. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

What are all the models that would be included in the "Hercules series?"

I had heard that they're trying to edge out the 850 and only push the 950/1100. Could just be a rumour though...

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts on this series! It sounds as though they should perform well if proper maintenance is done.

                Take care.

The only issue I've seen with the Hercules series in school settings is doing transparencies. I've had where they will run 100k to 200k and go to do a set of transparencies and it jams like crazy. Have to clean the paper dust off of all the rollers and then they can run their transparencies. Only issue is I have to clean the rollers every time they want to run them. So either plan visits for that or make sure they don't do transparencies through it.

Funny how we send out kids (the future) to get educated at establishments with decades old technology compared to the rest of the world.

Anyone remember those silly educational film strips that they used to show in school...now resurfacing on youtube.

I like overhead projectors but hated being taught with them. We either got a paper copy of the transparency and had it read to us or had to hand write what was written on the transparency. The teachers apparently thought we were "invalids" and incapable of reading something on our own at a much faster pace than than snail (their speed).

Awe public education systems...the most traumatizing experience most of us will face and the most wasted part of my youth!

Thanks for the heads up on the power issue and the use of transparencies! The transparencies drive me a little crazy anyway on the MX-M700 series at these schools. They tend to tear up the fuser rollers at times.

                        Thanks again for your thoughts!
