    Developer low message

    Hello all
I have a customer using one of our MX-2300N with postscript added. Their IT people are saying that when they go to print from MAC OS, the pdriver says that the Developer is low, OPC drum life over, and waste toner/ink container full. There is no Maint. codes on the machine, or low toners but they are still getting the message. Anyone ever seen an issue like this? I am not at all a MAC person but do know the ins and outs of windows. Thanks for any help you can give!! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Not having dealt with Macs before, I can't say with any certainty. However, it is still at base level, a computer. All the basics have been checked over? They have the correct driver installed, have they tried reinstalling the driver?

Always helps to have a starting point!

They have reinstalled drivers 3 times, with no luck and using sharp PS_PPD drivers.

Tech tip 1508 is the number, may potentially be limited to Sharp Canada however.

They mentioned this at the dealer roundtable in Neb. Its a fault in mac os. Haven't tried the above fix though.

                  Re: Developer low message

There may be some sort of error messages, but I'm doubting the 100% accuracy of these messages.

For one thing, there is no "Developer is Low" message on any MFP I have ever encountered. For another, an electrostatic photocopier does not use "ink" and would never say so in an error message.

I think I'd start by gathering some accurate observations. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                  1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                  2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                  3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                  4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                  5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                      Re: Developer low message

Check that TIP Akitu posted. MAC did a update to their OS which in result fraked up the Sharp Driver support about a 6 months ago. It had something to do with M codes and such.

                      A friend emailed me this.

'Developer is empty / OPC drum is end of life' message displayed on a Apple Mac is a problem with Apple's latest OS update (update to OS 10.6.8) and is NOT a machine issue.
Customer should be advised as such.

Below is a work-around, and is not a permanent fix. It will disable any reporting of consumable levels such as toner to the printer driver, and automatic detection of printer driver when adding printer in Apple MAC.

On the machine webpage, Select SECURITY SETTINGS, then PORT CONTROL, find the SNMPD option, and change the value next to it to DISABLE. Press SUBMIT
Reboot the machine and client will need to re-install driver on the Apple Mac's only.

A permanent fix will need to be sourced from Apple in the form of a OS update and at this stage, there is no ETA.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
