Ar-650 with finisher (fn8) installed and it is working fine. But I went to a jamming call and the paper stops at the PS roller regardless of paper source even bypass. I removed the finisher and it works fine. I replaced logic pwb, finisher main pwb, and finisher interface pwb. I even changed out finisher. I am not sure why a finisher being attached would cause this symptom especially with an entirely different finisher swapped in. The finisher works on other machine, the copier works by itself, but put them together....jam. Logic would telll me that this MUST be a problem somewhere in the machine but where? And why only with the sorter attached?

Wow, that is totally illogical!
I don't remember, what other machines does this finisher mate to, and how does it compensate for machine speed? If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

In response to blackcat4866 - I'm not 100% positive but I believe the fn8 only works on the Ar-650 and 651.
Mr Spock - thank you for the help. We have replaced the system pwb with no luck. Clutches, however, had not occured to us. To make things a little more illogical let me tell you a couple other things we noticed....
Even though the physical jam is located right at the PS roller, the machine says the jam has occured in the duplexer even when making single sided copies. There is approximately a 5 second stall in the copy process before the jam indication is thrown. Our theory was that there may be a faulty sensor in the exit section that is telling the machine that paper has been diverted into the duplexor and when it fails to exit the duplexor and reunite with the PS roller, it shows a jam in the duplex thinking a paper has gotten stucjk there. The problem with this theory is that all the sensors check fine. We even removed the duplex unit completely and it STILL thinks there is a jam in the duplex. And, of course, ONLY when the finisher is attached.
Now thinking about clutches....a new possible theory would be one of timing. If the timing is slightly changed with the addition of a finisher and a clutch is slighlty slipping, it may be enough to throw off the timing and cause a jam. Remove the finisher, original timing sequences are restored and the slippage of a clutch may not be enough to throw things off.
Obviously grabbing at straws here. Any additional input?Comment

Now, I am not at all familiar with Sharps, but... Is there a motor slowing down somewhere causing a jam? Is there anything in the finisher driven by the copier (say, an entrance roller) that could be loading up the system? I seem to remember problems like this in some Minolta digital models - Di250,350 & Di450,550. The entrance roller shafts on the finishers would get bad bushes and seize up - bingo - pj! I realise that you have tested the finisher on another machine but stranger things have happened.
Does this help or confuse???If you are hitting your head up against a wall it always feels better when you stop.Comment
