    [Misc] AR-M550 is squealing

Working on a AR-M550 with about 2.5 million impressions. We Just replaced KA and KB kit and drum and the customer call and complained about a squeal. The noise happens when the machine turns on after the fans start and continue when making copies. We removed the fuser and toner to rule those out and the noise seems to be comming from the process unit. We powdered the red seals and used starting powder on the drum unit before installing and put some oil on the bearings on the drum also but we can't seem to find we it is comming from. Any ideas?

two things i would check.first the transfer belt unit.it has bearings that sqeek.i would open the left side and rub my hand back and forth on the belt to see if the noise is comming from the transfer unit. the other thing is to open the front door and remove thed drum stay, and run a copy to see if it is comming from the drum stay....good luck.be sure to put the drum stay back

The swing down fuser drive gear shaft at the rear (with fuser removed) gets rusty and can cause squeals.

It's common for the registration clutch to tear itself to pieces between 400K and 1M prints. Just pull the back cover and look for the red rust stain on the back cover, and around the clutch. Replace the registration clutch asap (PCLC-0328FCZZ).

          Also:
Squeaking noise consistently, whenever the main motor runs (1.3M). Transfer roller bearings seize, cutting into the shaft. Replace transfer roller, bearings (NBRGY0717FCZZ), holders (NBRGP0734FCZZ).

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

One last one to try is the toner motor. Have had problems with these on the MXM550 series but could be your problem as well. Run sim 10 and see what it sounds like. They will generally start squealing just before they fail.

            Good luck.

If you rebuilt the transfer unit it's possible you put the collars on backwards after reassembly (little plastic thingys with bearings in them). They are front and rear frame specific and marked F & R. The roller can move closer to a metal frame inside the transfer belt and will cause one hell of a squeel as its metal on metal.

Thanks for the help. We took apart the transfer unit and found some toner on the bearings, cleaning and some oil made the noise go away and the customer is happy.
