I do know a few new generation MFPs do do a scan to USB Pen .. however I'm not 100% which models do, I built one the other day.
I'll have a look tomorrow at work for you.

Sounds like someone was trying to update the firmware! You may have to do an emergency boot with your thumb drive. You'll know when you get there and turn on the machine (turn off both power switches) and in the very upper left hand corner of the LCD there will be a message. If you are not getting the background light on the LCD then I would try a new hard drive or memory. Have had to initialize several of this series so far.

      Good luck.

BTW all Sharp MX versions scan to USB and most of the newer MXM series to as well.

        Re: ICU M HDD Error

hello guys, just a quick update, i visited the client today expecting to see the MFP completely dead, however the power was off, when i booted it up,it worked, so asked the client explain to me what had happen when they got the error, she said that they were trying to scan a document to a cutomers Ipod, and everything just died, i told her the usb port can only supply a certain amount off current/voltage and its possible the Ipod could have been looking for more power than the front usb can supply, i also did a read/write test on the HDD and memory, dunno what happened but i will observe the MFP for a while, thanks again for all the advice.

Bill, I have the same issue with MX-2600N, I see that the fix is to initilaze with emerg. boot program.. I am not sure if I have the program, do you know where and if I can get it?

The possible cause could be a massive PostScript error, being that it is an Apple product and PS is an option on the 2600. I'm curious what the job log looks like with that type of error.

To emergency update, change the file name to emupdate_p2.sfu. Insert the firmware jump drive and power on.

It's just the ROM update placed on the root directory of a thumb drive. Have the thumb drive in the USB port when you start the copier, I had to play around with the op panel keys to get it to the ROM update (sorry don't remember the exact key sequence but it is similar to updating the ARM355's) then went from there.

              Good luck.

Hey, I have had the machines completely 'die' while a usb is plugged into it. If you try to power cycle or wake up from sleep while the usb was plugged in the machine didn't like it for some reason. Removed the Customers usb and it worked without problem. Just in case this helps.

Thanks Bill.. I am sorry if I sound silly but I don;t have the thumb drive that you are reffering too.. Is it a special thumb drive OR any thumb drive would work with the right ROM program? Thanks

Any thumb drive as long as it's not encrypted or password protected.

                    Good luck.

Worth noting that it must be FAT or FAT32 format as well. Copier will not read NTFS.
