MX-M1100 with MX-FNX5 Finisher finisher not stapling all the sheets

    Hi guys,

I have a hercules machine which when doing stapled sets, the last sheet or couple of sheets within the set are not being stapled together, i have watched the paper go into the finisher and curl in the guides, then when stapling it seems to miss a couple of pages when stapled. I turned the paper around in the tray and it worked. Although the customer now says its happening again (maybe paper is curling again) is there anything i should look out for?

Check the mylar in the staple compiling area. There is one on each of the movable guides. Had 1 of these get turned and it was catching the paper preventing it from stapling properly. I fixed the mylar position and have not had an issue since.

    Good luck.

Reduce the fuser temperatures in 43-01 & 43-04 by 2 or 3 degrees for plain & ready. This stops the severe curl. Also clean/check/replace the compiling roller which basically taps the paper in the compiling tray into the lowest possible position so it can staple correctly.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

When you mention the compiling roller, that looks fine, but, when i watched the action of the compiler, it only tapped the copies when the copies were being fed out!!
The compiling roller turns when the documents are being stacked but does not come down, it only comes down when the copies are fed out, can you confirm this is what should happen as i only have one of these out. (the manual just says the roller turns).

Does the compiling roller turns each page...... yes it does. Attached image from SM.

My first call tomorrow is a hercules with a FNX5. I'll also confirm on this machine & get back to you.

I'm standing in front of the mxm1100 right now. I've just watched the compiling roller NOT come down onto the stack each time. You're right. It only comes down to help eject the stapled bundle out. It does rotate the whole time while compiling is happening though. The main part of the finisher which pushes the set down into the bottom brackets is the 'top fence'. This moves down to tap the paper on the top to ensure the set is level. The bottom push plates then come forward and hold the compiled set while the stapling occurs. If there is severe enough curl happening before it gets to those bottom brackets, i can see how it would miss the staples. Must be more of a paper issue (damp) or reducing the temps i mentioned before will help.
There is nothing else to it.

          1000 apologies, Sir.

Thanks for the reply, i have put some mylars to help keep the paper straight and also bent the paper end guides outwards slightly (the ones at the bottom where the paper sits) as they seem to interfere when the paper is curled, i may end up dropping fuser temp or hoping theres no more hot weather (as the room was 35 degrees).

Once again thanks for getting back with your findings.
