Ok here's what we do. You can format it to try to erase the info but there is still info there. Also now some leasing will require upon return that the HDD be destroyed or sanitized. If sanitized they often require a DOD certification. Saying it was sanitized to the DOD standards. Either that or install a data security kit. We go the sanitation route,and send all of our HDD's to Hytec Dealer Services. They sanitize it and provide the needed certificate all for less than 50$.
