    File Retention Problem

    Hi,

A customer of mine has a MX4100n which has been working fine for the whole time it has been on site.
They then bought a new PC which I installed the printer onto locally using drivers which I have used many times in the past, also downloaded the latest drivers from Sharp.
When the user prints an A4 pamphlet, onto A3 paper, it all works fine. But if they use the same settings but print to Document filing and try to print it from there the copier asks for A3 paper to be inserted. Even if they specify to use tray 2 which is set for A3.
Also when the job is received in the main folder the name of the document is "PDFC-", instead of the name of the document being printing, and the username is "hp" instead of "user" as per all the other jobs. There is no authentication setup on the copier.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

    Thank you in advance

Is the paper type the same? Any restrictions on tray 2? Try the same file and steps from a different PC and see if the result is the same. Send the job to the main folder as A4. Then, at the machine, override A4 and tell it to render to A3. You could also check the job log to see the file name and the user it came from.

PDFC could be PDFCreator. If you are using PS drivers and Acrobat, a font error can occur. Try the same file with PCL drivers.

I think mojorolla is on the right track. Don't try to set up the booklet layout when sending to the folder, just single sided A4. Then once the doc is in the folder, then set up the booklet layout in the print dialog.

I've run into something similar when I had users sending complex print jobs to Private Print boxes on Kyocera Saturn machines. I discovered that the box was unable to regurgitate those jobs, but the complex layout could be added in the print selections once the doc was in the box.

      Does that make sense? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you both for your replies.

The document name was coming from PDFCreator, once I had sent it to the copier in Adobe Reader it showed the name as it should.

I noticed that another engineer had set Tray2 (A3) the be letterhead as it had been jamming so thought the letterhead type would cure the issue. Once I put this back to Plain then it printed as it should.
What I don't understand it why on the driver the paper type was set to ignore but when in Doc filing it said it was a plain doc, I would of thought it would still ignore the paper type.

Not to worry, the customer is now happy that they can print as they used to.

        Thanks for your help.

There is a hierarchy in printing:
          1. The program you are running/printing from.
          2. The print driver.
          3. The machine settings.

The application you are printing from runs the show.
