As with all facsimilie you are at the mercy of the sender as to the quality of the scan. CCD scanners can get dusty and produce very light images. The next question is, Only one sender? Or all senders?

If all senders, odds are that all the fax machines sending to you aren't all simultaneously dirty. The FO-1530 is a thermal transfer printer, so there are a few common things to check:
      1) How old is your transfer sheet? As it ages it can start to crumble all by itself as it spoolings off.
      2) The thermal head can build up with foreign matter dispersing the heat. You can clean the thermal print head with Orange-Sol or some other de-greaser.
      3) Have you tried fresh (not-moist) paper? Paper can cause light prints.

Typically there aren't exposure adjustments on thermal printers. If the thermal head was failing you would get a band in the feed direct that is blank. I think you would have specified something like that.

Another thing you might want to think about is, How much time can I spend servicing a $99.00 fax, and still get paid for my labor?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
