      Are you using your hostname or IP ? I'd try it with IP address, that way you rule out hostname resolution. That message means it's not even finding the host.
      Hope that helps !

        Ive seen this, it seems some models of Sharp just wont do it, they time out on host resolution/reply too quickly or not at all, even if the ip address is static , network settings be damned, and thats when you gotta SharpDesk it.. Its not you or your settings, I've lost hair over this, dont get me wrong, sometimes its third party security software ( Norton Internet Security, McAfee,) but I have seen this on Sharps..

        I could point the MFP directly at a static IP address, Leave the Network and Sharing settings wide open, firewall off, and comb through the address book entry for clerical error, and I still got those messages on this model.. The answer? SharpDesk.. grrrrr...

            Also, try disabling forcing 128-bit encryption and reducing LAN manager authentication level:

            Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc:

            Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> "Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients": disable "Require 128-bit encryption" also try changing "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
            That sounds brilliant! This sounds like the underlying cause of all this.. SMB protocol implementation differences between MFP and newer versions of Windows = communication errors and my infuriating reaction. lol Im taking this with me, thanks bro, this is leet!

              Thanks for all the helpful info. I was also pulling my hair out trying to figure out why scan from my MX3501. All I needed to do is update the firmware and it started working perfectly.
