    [Misc] SHARP MX-4501n not working

Sorry for the repost but I was given instructions to re-word my title as it could not contain print as the last word. I am still in need of help

We recently put this copier on to the network and we can see the copier from all the workstations. We can even ping it and it returns properly when requested. We tried to print a test page and nothing comes out. We hear the copier ramp up like it's going to print but nothing ever prints. I am at a total loss and need some help
We are running: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit. The workstations are running Windows 7 Professional 32bit.

    Re: SHARP MX-4501n not working

    Here are two possibilities:

    1) Perhaps there is a duplicate IP address on the network. To test, unplug the MFP, then ping that address. If you get an answer you know there's a dupe.
    2) Do you have Secure Print or Private Print enabled? If there is no code entered, the print job will not print.
    3) How about emulation? Sharps come standard with PCL, and PostScript is an available option. Are you using a PostScript driver to print to an MFP without the PostScript option? If yes, you'll need to load a PCL6 print driver. Or perhaps the wrong emulation is set on the MFP?

I think the first thing that I would do is plug in my laptop via crossover cable and attempt to print with a PCL driver. That will rule out duplicate IP addresses, and emulation problems. =^..^=

    OK, so I can't count.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Blackcat,

Thanks for all of the troubleshooting steps, and I will each step! I do know that when the copier was installed at first it had a dhcp address. We then changed it to a static ip address. I will post the outcome. Thanks for pointing me in the starting direction.

If it still fails to print and there is no duplicate IP on the network, then log into the remote web manager and check the job logs. It will give you an error code of the print.

How is your port configured - RAW or LPR? We have had great success when port is configure as LPR, queue name lp (lower case).

Is user authentication turned on? Check for certain by going to the web page of the copier and go to User Control -> Default Settings (default pwd is admin). If user control is ON and Disabling of Printing by Invalid User is checked, you would need an account code to print.

By going to the web page to check instead of just hitting log-off button at MFP, you can rule out the scenario where user authentication is ON, and it is using Device Account Mode (checked)with Allow Login by Different User off (unchecked).

The other suggestions in this post are more probable, but this more obscure solution could help.

            Good Luck.

you should looking on status printer that have document in there or not , if you can see that, that mean data have been transfer from pc to copy ready, maybe worng paper size , if you don't see the document in the status that mean is that lost when tranfer to pc and copy machine , check the connect between pc and copy machine

              i hope that help

Thanks for the advice and I did login as admin and did discovered that authenticate by user number was selected. I disabled it and rebooted but I am still not able to print from a workstation. I send the command to print and hear the copier warmup and the data light blinks but it does not print.

If the data light is lighting up and then dropping the data, I would be inclined to think that for some reason user authentication and disabling of printing by invalid user is still active, as those are the exact symptoms you'll notice while trying to print.

So, under User Control-> Default Settings, you have set User Authentication to Disable? If you have disabled it, then it should not matter whether you are sending a print job with a user code or not (or whether you are sending a color or black-n-white job or what Authority Group the "Other User" user is using).

With user authentication disabled, I would focus on the print driver setup. As Blackcat said above, check if the driver you are using is PCL6 or PostScript. If it is PostScript, the copier must have the PostScript option installed, otherwise it will drop the print jobs in the exact manner that you are describing.

Also, on what computer are you trying to print from? Is the print driver shared from the Win2008 server? If so, did you install the 32bit drivers on the server (Printer Properties-> Sharing Tab->Additional Drivers check x86)?

I would test by installing a fresh, local version of the PCL6 driver onto one of the Windows 7 computers and try printing using that local version. If it works, then you know there is some issue with the other print driver.

If it doesn't work, I'd get a laptop out, connect it directly to the copier, and try printing. This would eliminate network issues.

                      Good luck.

Thanks Ceechtay I am on it and will check the driver to see which is installed. Yes the software was installed on the Win2008 server as shared.

Is there a Firefox connected to the copier? If there is just power cycle it and that will flush the arp cache and then it should work.
