We got a new MX3140 in the shop today to setup and can't find any color calibration procedures for brand new out of the box.

Re: MX3140 Color Calibration
There's a bit of common sense in the set up. First thing to do is always initialize your developer BEFORE loading toner. Set multi-paper sizes detect in the duplex and whether or not to count blank pages, set date and time, location code, right exit tray activation... Make sure everything is aligned with 50-22 and then do a 46-74 calibration. Not much to it... Same as any other Sharp.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: MX3140 Color Calibration
I set one up the other day. Pretty much the same as the previous Aries and Virgo machines. I'm feeling saucy tonight so I'll give you the in depth version. Here is my setup:
Calibration
25-2
50-22, do the ALL PHASE adjustment first. There is a screw for K on the new machines as well as the usual CMY adjustment screws.
50-28, do the OC adjustment first. If not done first, anything scanned from the glass will be off.
44-2
44-13, this is the one with the jig
44-6
44-26
Exit to reboot
46-74. Use the recommended Hammmermill paper to calibrate, it does make a difference.
63-8 + 67-28 : these point the scan and print targets to the target we just created.
67-17, print memory flush
65-1, touch pad calibrate.
64-5, pattern 3. Shows the result of the calibration and your color alignment, the moment of truth.
Update firmware.
Settings: these are optional, just personal preferences.
26-69 set to 1, toner prep message
*26-38 value B set to 1. This is only on 4111 and 5111 machines. Print continue when the web reaches maintenance. This setting can buy you a few days on those long drive accounts, but don't wait too long, these fusers are poorly designed to say the least.<----saucy
-Soft Switches
SIM 55-1
bit 9 sw8
SIM 55-3
bit 22 sw 5
bit 9 sw 5
These enable a maintenance and toner remaining bar graph on the touch panel. Very useful when calling in for PMs.
Rinse and repeat.

Re: MX3140 Color Calibration
Doesn't the newer MX have a self-calibrating sensor? At least, that what I could tell by looking underneath. Also explains the lack of jig calibration instructions in the installation manual. (Either that or I have gone blind).Comment

Dave is a good no bullshit kind of guy. If he says do it that way it is probably the best way. I run into him once in a while in Romeoville when he is back.Comment

Re: MX3140 Color Calibration
I set another one up and noticed something odd. While using the recommended Hammermill paper, I started to get residual image and splotchy copies. Having rebuilt quite a few of these fusers, I pulled and inspected but everything looked fine. I then bumped the temperature down a few points, and ran again. The copies did the same things, residual and splotchy image. However, the good Hammermill paper had run out and the last two prints were on regular grade paper. The image was perfect, no flaws. I bumped the temps back to normal, went into Fuser Control, and set the machine to the 23-28lb. fuser setting. Did a full calibration with the Hammermill, and this time everything looked great. Ran 50 full color, good paper, all looked great.
So I now have the setup guys doing the Fuser Control setting at setup as well.
Dave Nipp was the best trainer I have had thus far at Sharp. I did the Hercules class with him. There was actual troubleshooting in his class. These new classes are too long, too dull, and the tools don't come out until Wednesday or Thursday.
He actually goes to Japan and gets to see all the cool stuff we only here about.
