    pantone

    Hello all
We had a Sharp rep here yesterday and he said that there is an update you need to load into the machine to get the pantone matching software to work. I can not find any files on Sharp on how to load this software (they actually called it firmware). Can anyone help me out as to where on Sharps website I can download it from and how to load it onto the machine? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

May want to find that rep and ask as far as I know any certified pantone software requires a licensing fee to pantone.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

I always believed that Pantone colors cannot be reproduced with CMYK?

As with any conversion RGB, CMYK, Pantone, whatever ... it's going to be a compromise. Some color ranges will reproduce well, and others ... just won't. If you look at the charts below (thank you Wikipedia), the CMYK color space or gamut is approximately 1/2 of all the possible colors visible to the human eye, specifically excluding the neon colors with the brightest luminosity.

          Re: pantone

A device only needs to match 30% of the Pantone colors to be "Pantone Certified".

Nobody says which 30% it needs to be.

In IDNC use the google search box and enter Pantone. There is several different files for downloading. The one for the MX2640 series has a file that gets uploaded using service login. All the other data is for the users to upload to their applications ie(Adobe,Indesign,Creative Suites.). Our sales manager came back from Mahwah all excited about this and we have only one person who remotely even understands what to do on her end..She is a graphic artist.

It is not firmware, but an ICC profile that needs to be loaded into the machine. Once this is done, the machine will render Pantone ONLY if the file sent contains Pantone color. All other colors will be rendered by the machines built in target.
