The serial number can change if every single board is replaced with the EEPROM from another machine. There are no elevated service modes for this machine to anyone's knowledge so it can no longer be changed manually. If every single board is not changed you will receive serial number discrepancy U2 or A0 error codes.

Are you sure you just don't have a report from another machine? Verify the serial number that was printed out most recently matches the serial number sticker of the machine. There's literally no way for a customer or even a tech to change the serial number now short of doing a 100% board swap.

100% agree with Akitu. There's virtually no chance that the serial number changed. More likely you just have reports from two different machines. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
