A worn upper heat roller or temperature set a bit too high may also cause these background problems. Barring that I think that covers everything under the sun short of a voltage problem.

had similar issue with arm355n, replaced dev units, checked bias voltage for dv unit, replaced hv unit, density was always low when checking via 25-1 around 70 and copier was not showing any errors for density or dv unit. checking 22-6 printout would show density reference was still at 110(default is 118)as this was a new clean dev unit. finally replaced pcu board(controls density) and no calls for grey backgrounds in over a year and half.

Sim 80 is one of 6 or so secret sim codes,there is one in there as well to reset meter reading etc.From memory it is

I hate being that guy, but please delete this or edit it out of existence. It's people who gave this code away freely such as yourself who had the code put under lock and key so us lowly technicians can't use it any further with the new Aries/Virgo machines.

thanks again guys. I will try to get back on this tomorrow. I had the codes but it has been a while since I ever needed to use them. I wa going to call my DSS if I couldn't find them in my notes but this will save time. I agree people abuse them.

Hello Everyone,

First time on the forum.
Not sure if you got this figured out but you may want to check Bias voltages.
I had this issue just a few hours ago.
Checked voltages and Sim 8-1 "Auto" was -497.5V instead of -470V +/- 5V.
Adjusted back to spec and machine gave EE-EL trouble right away, ran Sim 7-1-30 and 25 copies to reduce toner level.
After that ran copies and Sim 25-1 several times and DV Ref kept increasing until it got to 102 where it stabilized.
Just make sure to check the manual page 8-2 for proper values because 355 and 455 have different voltages.
Anyway hope this helps.

By the way, the factory service codes still exist even on the new machines. Sharp doesn't want techs using them. If you tell tech support you used sim 80 or similar in factory service mode they will tell you to replace all pcu's, eeproms, and maintenance parts as a set.

Define 'new machines'; as of the Aries the old elevated sim codes no longer work.

I would have to agree with Akitu

That i am aware of anything without a physical 10 key no longer has elevated test commands.
