AR-M550N fuser sep pawls toner encrusted again

I have been to customer a few times for fuser jamming because of toner encrusted on pawls especially upper. I changed pawl and a day later same thing. Cleaner component appear to be okay. Last time (yesterday) the fuser seemed exceedingly hot from how they usually are. For the time being I lowered the 3 temps from 200 to 185 and left preheats at 170. Fuser does not appear to have much wear. Please advise. Frank/ActionPhotocopy.

It will certainly add life to your fuser at the lower temperatures, as long as you're getting adequate fusing. I can honestly say that some toner buildup on the heat roller claws is expected. If this helps you minimize the toner buildup that's great.

If you are talking about the toner "pepper" throughout the fuser, the new style fuser with cleaning functions solves this problem. There were also adjustments to minimize the problem, that didn't entirely work.

Is it OEM toner or generic toner? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I didn't see toner sprinkling throughout fuser. Just on pawls and the tips looked as though they were starting to melt. Started to be more problematic after wasted container backed up. I found out about the additional toner in new cartridges without modification in waste container which fills up before toner is finished. Lots of banging and a little messy. And now this a few times since emptying waste and cleaning. Frank

Bulletin MFP-TB-194 Changes to the Fuser Unit to Prevent Toner Spots, POD1_N Jams and L4-03 Error.

There are some other ones for toner backup, but not really for when the waste toner container is full. I thought there was a bulletin or firmware update for the waste toner backup.

That is somewhat of an old machine. Depending on the copy count, might be worth getting another machine. They are workhorses though. Had 2 at 4 mil copies and 1 now just over 1 mil and a couple just under a mil.

The waste toner overfilling is common when the developer has overtoned. I've seen this on Dragon I, II, and III. Perhaps a developer change is in your future.

If the claw tips are melting, yes the temperature is high. I think I'd take it a step further though, and change the thermistors and claws. The thermistors could be reading incorrectly, and you may experience a meltdown. Catch it now before it gets really interesting. =^..^=

Thanks guys. I will order the thermistor thought I had swapped one from an MX-M700 used fuser. Maybe it isn't reading properly as you say,David, as I don't remember the fuser being that hot until after changing it.Frank

Just remember to check your fusing with the new thermistors. You may need to raise the temperature again.

Typically, I only adjust fuser temperature once I know the thermistors are new or recently installed. =^..^=

Speaking from experience you will get toner backup in the waste section and excess throughout machine and in fuser if you use non-oem supplies.
