    MX-2310u changing ip address

We have a customer who recently had a MX-PB14 installed as per installation manual, due to new software requiring PCL it had been printing fine for a month.

Yesterday they put in a call saying they couldn't print and on investigation the IP Address had changed. Its setup on IPv4 with a manual IP address but has a new address appear that wasn't in the same range at all. It was 169.34. something.
I reset the NIC and its working I just wanted to stop it happening again.

I've never heard of an IP address changing by itself unless a copier was disconnected from a network with DHCP active. I think they might just be trying to avoid blame on this one; someone got overzealous and started changing things.
Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?

ip range starting with 169 is the ip address a device with dhcp on and doesn't receive address from dhcp server assigns itself. If dhcp was off on copier, customer probably turned it on ? check any fw updates if there was any issues of this kind with PB14.

Newer models have a syslog on the service webpage. You can filter the view to just web page access and it will show you a record of all web page activity.

Uncheck all the boxes, then select under "Facility" 19 Local use 3 (local3) and under "Severity" 5 Notice. Look through the results. In the example below you can see that the Network Quick Settings "nw_quick.html" was accessed from a computer at IP address 192.168.1.4 and shows "Change Setting".

This shows that a computer at that IP address made changes to the network settings on June 17 and 10:01.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner never got a chance to check back, the firmware is up to date checked that first. That syslog is a good job if a bit awkward to breakdown.

The problem hasn't returned touch wood.

I had the exact same problem on MX2640, after factory reset to NIC the problem (touchwood!) has not returned.
