Sharp ARM 550U clicking noise - waste toner full

I have a couple Sharp ARM 550U's that are having an issue with the waste toner bottles filling up before the toner is empty and causing the loud clicking noise. Copy quality is fine. Ant ideas on why this may be happening?

    Short copy/print jobs.

It fills after about 3,000 copies, way too early! Possibly weak developer?

Your drum could be worn out and pulling extra toner/dv mix. Are you using (a) non-OEM part(s)? Typically this is a very strong machine.

Re: Sharp ARM 550U clicking noise - waste toner full

I had a couple Dragon III's recently that were overtoning slightly. Not enough to seriously change the quality, but enough to overfill the waste bottle. Dragon I's have no way of detecting if the waste bottle side of the toner cartridge is filling. There is a basic (false) assumption that there is enough room in the waste receptacle, that the toner side will run out first.

My customer became hyper-aware of that tic, tic, tic sound you get when the drum cleaning unit is backing up. She stopped immediately when the clicking started, so that all it really needed was to dump a little of the waste toner, to use up the rest of the toner in the cartridge. The third time I changed out the black developer and it hasn't happened since. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

One other thing you can look at, contributed by one of our benefactors:

maybe a very long shot, but perhaps worth mentioning that as-of August 2096 the waste toner compartment of the cartridge was increased to deal with this issue (guy 'possibly' using very old toner stocks not modified), and maybe add that this issue can occur from not resetting 24-11 rotation counters as well, when replacing drum & dev. A very light coating of toner can be on the page that most eyes can't see, and this extra coverage leads to quick/faster than normal waste toner box filling.

I have always reset 24-11, so never thought of this. I hope he meant August 2006, or we have 82 years to wait. =^..^=

I'm sure it'll be out of warranty by then and maybe in a museum.

Isn't that the usual wait for Sharp updates (especially Dragon I)? =^..^=

For Dragon 1, yes, but for new machines, the firmware for new set ups isn't even listed on IDNC. So, the field may be doing BETA testing.
