Trying to verify this unit uses port 445 for SMB2 compatibility, I assume it does but don't want to 'assume' anything. Also would like to know if it supports scanning to the 'shared' folder on the HDD like the MX-2610N and other similar models, since it is newer I would assume so BUT...don't know for sure and don't have one to test. The 'shared' folder scanning has been very helpful on some installations.

As to NAS (network accessible storage), you can share 16GB from the MFP's HDD.

Re: MX-2616N port 445 for SMB?
you can get a program called netscan(free) from softperfect.com , netscan can scan for open ports on devices. scanned mx2610n and found that port 139 and 445 are open. also on mac osx mavericks the network utility app has port scanning built in. fyi mac osx mavericks 10.9.4 works with at least sharp mx2610n(only color series I've tested so far). for scan to smbComment

Re: MX-2616N port 445 for SMB?
Thank you both. I have also verified SMB scanning works on MX-2610N with Mavericks, just have not tested MX-2616N and since its a 'bare-bones' color box wasn't sure if they had it fully functional like the MX-2610N. Loaded Netscan and checked ports on our network, very useful. Too bad Sharp can't (or won't) fix the port issue on the older machines. Our Dell 2155cdn also shows 445 as open, but it was 2010 era or newer. No 445 on our MX-C311 or MX-C402SC and I'd be surprised if the MX-C312 has it open either making that a 'new machine' using old technology like the MX-M260's which won't support SMB at all from what I recall.Comment
