Hello, I have a customer who wants to do large runs doing saddle stitch. The problem is on their paper even though it is not thick persay, is wont fuse properly unless it is set on thick 1. Machine wont allow saddle stitch functions with thick paper settings. I tried to up the fuser temps but did not help. I changed a default fuser code in the devise mode screen, forgot the exact name but it helped a little. Is there any wat to get around the loss of function of the finnishing options when using thick paper settings. Thanks for any help.

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
I've come across this on a couple of bizhubs. You can have Thick paper media type, or you can have saddle stitch, ... but you cannot have both at the same time.
I don't recommend it, by the way, but my customers run their heavy paper as plain. It fuses poorly. They bitch. Then I explain the story to them for the hundredth time (and replace the fuser again). =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Lemme guess, it's a church. We have dozens of churches and they all run booklets; Jesus loves saddle stitching.
If you are using the FN10 finisher you are limited to 28lbs as the max weight.
If you feel saucy, you can change the 43-1 values for plain paper to the default values of heavy paper and see if fusing improves. However, this will change all drawers set as plain paper and would need to be thoroughly tested.
Even if that were to work, that weak stapler probably will not go through the heavier stock. Those staples are pretty thin.

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
Don't forget that the 20# plain paper now wrinkles with the higher temperature. I'm thinking of typing up the explanation. so I can print off a copy and staple it to my workorder, to save the 25 minutes of explanation on each call. =^..^=
EDIT: This thread crosses some of that territory:

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
Thanks for the replies. I think we are going to swap finnishers with a FN 18 as we do have a FN 10 on there now. I will try to find out is the FN18 will allow for thick paper settings first though.Comment

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
fn18 allows thick cover page then 10 or 15 sheets plain paper with cover page. but no folding of thick paper. looked at the fn22 on the production printers and that one even only does front/ back covers with limited plain paper sheets in between. is the paper within the 16lb to 28lb range for plain paper?Comment

Production...I think not; more like high volume color.

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
My issue of not fusing properly occurred on a MX-4141N, but I would think it is the same. My client was using 28# paper. I would check if they are using paper between 23 and 28#. If they are, go to System settings/Device Control/Fuser Settings. There, you can select plain paper as 16-23 or 23 - 28 lbs.
Hopefully, this works.Comment

Re: MX-5111n functionality when using thick paper settings
Yes I have done the settings like you suggest MHeon71 and for one for one of their papers it did now fuse properly. The problem is this customer does all kinds of print side jobs and they always have some kind of oddball paper they are trying to run. Problems with the sharp are the same as the other machines they have used before. I think the FN18 will work if the machine would allow thick paper settings to be selected when using finnisher functions. I just have not found out for sure if it will.Comment
