[Misc] User Codes enabled, PDF not printing

    Hello all,

We have a Sharp MX-3100 that I have enabled user codes on. We can print all/any files except PDF's on a Mac even with the user code established. You can see the data light blink, however the print job never prints. Has anyone had this issue before, and this is only happening with Mac's.

    Thank you.

Does it happen to all of your Mac's or do you only have one on the network? I'm making an assumption that you have postscript enabled on this unit? Have you tried it without user account enabled do you get the same results? Only time I have had a similar issue was when the user code was not entered correctly, the lights would flash and the file would not print since the user code was invalid (this is the machine default).

    Good luck

    Bil

      Hello Bill,

Thank you for replying to my thread, it only happens with the Macs on the network and there is 5 of them. I we print a doc or excel or pretty much anything else....it will print with no issues. However the minute the Mac Users print PDF files, it doesn't work...I did have them re-enter the user codes just to be on the safe side, however no luck. I can see the data light flash on the copier but nothing ever happens. I have not tried disabling the user code function on the copier to see what happens. I will test this today to see what I can accomplish, if I find a solution I will gladly post for all.

      Thank you.

On the 3100, postscript is an option. Go into SIM 22-10 and see if the PS option is installed.

You need PS3 expansion kit to use this machine in a Macintosh environment.

Go to System Settings and log as administrator. Go to product key and check if PS3 Expansion Kit is highlighted.

I assume that the Macs are using Adobe Reader to view the PDFs and to print them out? If so, I would try a different PDF viewer (plenty of free ones in the App Store - PDF Reader Pro Free has standard printing options/interface) and see if the PDFs print out. Adobe likes to handle much of the printing and may be conflicting somehow with the print driver and not sending the user codes.

It does sound like the print jobs are getting to the copier and being dropped (there are no print jobs in the print queue's on the Macs, correct?).

A sure fire way to tell if it is the codes is by listening for the polygon laser motor spinning up to speed. If it is the code, the polygon will start whining, then slowly back down as the code was not detected. Their will be no record of that job in the print queue as well.

Is it safe to assume that you're using a Sharp branded ppd? I know that there are plenty of generic Mac print divers out there that claim that they can print to anything, but don't. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
