    ARM237 doc feeder problem

    Customer called with arm237 doc feeder (RP7) problem of picking up more than 1 at a time. Replaced 2 tires and sep pad, all OEM. Now feeds one at a time but gets creasing and jamming to sep unit. After removing sep pad unit spring it worked well with no creasing or jamming. Then customer called to say jamming again. Thinking maybe pad locked in down position but won't know til monday.
    I know i was only compensating for problem by removing spring but I had been there a while and was frustrated and so when it worked after removing spring i was just relieved until phone call. Any enlightenment here is appreciated very much. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

      You already know the first question: What jam codes?

      I could have told you that it wasn't going to work without the separation spring. You'll have to install a spring.

      The jamming issue is probably something totally different. I don't know how much you've had these DF's apart, but this is common to pretty much every small Sharp DF. Remove the top covers. Detach the roller assembly from the base DF. You can leave the harnesses connected, you just need access to the bottom of the roller assembly. Use an orange oil based degreaser to clean every gray rubber roller. They will get slick with time. There is no way to do this properly with the DF assembled. When re-assembling be sure that the solenoid that operates the exit gate is properly aligned with the forked metal lever.

      Another common failure on this DF is the greaseable pickup clutch. A common misconception is that you can just squirt some lubricant at it and assume that's good enough. Greaseable spring clutch means that it needs grease, and it's not going to get in there unless it's disassembled and cleaned and grease applied and reassembled. I prefer the silicon based clutch grease used on the early Canon color copiers, but it's become as rare as hen's teeth. A good substitute is IBM23, still used on Ricoh's and Panasonics, but has been around at least as long as I have.

      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

          Thanks David. I've never had an adf problem on a Sharp that i was unable to correct. The documents were creasing and the crease(s) on the document is what caused the paper to jam. I'll post results once it is taken care of.Frank
