We have one that the upper fuser belt came apart on, after 260K copies or so, rebuilt the fuser, new rollers and thermistor unit, its inside the belt now, and it started to come apart as it was warming up, any one else seen this, the other tech and I are thinking its something to do with too much oil on the pad inside the unit, anyone else seen this happen yet???

Re: ES 5055 and all the new color machies
On the couple 4555/5055 fusers that I have rebuilt, the kit parts were modified from original. Originally there was not teflon pad on the fusers I've seen. I did use most of the oil container, so I doubt that you can put on too much oil. Let's see if I took a photo ... yes here it is:

The manual warns you not to get any oil on the outside of the belt, but I came to the conclusion that is is practically impossible to assemble this thing without bathing in the oil. I dropped my inkpen several times that day. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: ES 5055 and all the new color machies
It is possible to put the retainer clips on backwards, one of my techs did that and the black gear slid away just enough that the belt twisted and destroyed itself as well as not putting the bearings in proper or end brackets seated correctly.
The original screws that retain the oil pad like to fall out and were replaced with a new screw type that seems to not walk out.
Also the application pad has been changes from black plastic to white tephlon.
These fusers are a pain to rebuild as all the little plastic bits you have to remove like to break. The oil the kit comes with is nice though, you'll be dropping your tools for days.
But i have dealt with worse.

Re: ES 5055 and all the new color machies
One serious flaw that has become a reoccurring theme for me is the way the fixing film is driven. The main reason for premature failure that I have encountered is that the film begins to twist then eventually destroying itself. The reason this happens is directly related to the film having one drive gear on one end glued to the film and the gear at the other end spins free. If this hasn't been an issue for any of you yet, mark my words, it surly will.Comment
