    e2050c w/ HDD networked 24/7 operation

    Need your opinion on this.

last December 2015 we installed 15 units e2050c w/ hdd to this company and they don't want the units to be shut down claiming they don't have specific hours so its just set to Sleep mode. normal company operation is 5AM to 10PM on weekdays. some employees come in on week ends for overtime work.

Just this week on different days, 2 units just freeze - panel is lighted but blank and does not respond to touching any key. We have to reboot the unit and checked the logs and did not find any error. FW is latest.

Is it advisable to operate this printer w/hdd 24 hours?

This particular series of machines seems to consume HDDs at a regular interval. Pretty much all the Wipe Drive Technology drives have a short life. There is a new level of firmware that is supposed to change the HDD shut down procedure, and consequently make them last longer, but I haven't seen any evidence yet that it makes any difference. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Update the firmware to V2171. Finish with a 08-9030 and 08-9050.

Before you do this Power off the copier. Hold down 5 & C. Power on. Select 7 (HDD Utility). Press Start, 1 Initialize. Start. Deletes unnecessary logs in the HDD.

Get a Tripp lite LC1800 line conditioner. Test each copier over a couple days and get the users to note to if the Tripp Lite starts making a rapid or frequent clicking noise. This indicates a low voltage condition exists which can cause either the HDDs or the logic boards to crash.

I have these copiers in 24/7 operations centers and they work fine if the power supply is properly controlled.
