Unusual marks on transfer belt - e5520c/e5540c

Anybody seen this on the 5520/5540 series? This is a half-tone internal print:

It shows up on all colours. If you look closely the marks look like staple imprints. When I pull the belt out, you can see these marks as toner sitting on the belt, but they brush off and the belt is smooth. I've seen it on a 5520c with 800k and a 5540c with 350k. The solution was to replace the belt, but I'm wondering what could cause this? 800k and 350k seems early to have to replace a belt, they're not cheap!
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

not to familiar with those machines but on the xerox WC 75 series ive seen that it usually is cause by a staple getting inside the belt so i have to take the belt apart and clean all the rollers inside to make sure it doesnt come back hope that helps

I've seen the same thing on a Toshiba 6550. There has been some talk by Toshiba techs that it may be caused by the transfer belt self aligning mechanism rubbing on the back side of the belt as it moves.

Personally I would look at the facing rollers inside the primary transfer belt assembly. The facing rollers are the idlers that hold the transfer belt, and they can build up with toner to give you strange textures.

If for example, the roller near the transfer cleaning unit has a heavy buildup, with a few divits in the buildup, the transfer waste toner would not clean from those areas of the belt, and the residual toner would join the developed image on the belt. Some techs replace those rollers, but a little D-Ink and elbow grease will clean them up. Just be careful handling the belt. It wrinkles easily. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
