    4540 cleaning unit unlatches

I've had two of these units where the transfer belt cleaner comes unlatched causing a ca00 code. Different cleaner unit from good machine does the same thing. Replacing transfer belt unit cures problem. Is it the belt itself?

    Re: 4540 cleaning unit unlatches

On the primary transfer belt frame, there is a post on the rear frame that aligns with a plastic tube at the rear of the cleaning unit. At the front, there is a plastic "C" shaped piece that mates with a plastic post on the cleaning unit. Any one of these mating pieces may be broken. It's very easy to do. The cleaning unit must come out before removing the transfer belt assembly. Any pulling on the primary transfer belt assembly while the cleaning unit is still in the machine will cause damage.

Also re-inserting the cleaning unit after the belt is back in the cavity can be a bit tricky. The trick I was taught, is to remove the yellow imaging unit. With a flashlight, you can see the posts that need to align, and you can almost see what you're doing, but it's still difficult. Once it's in correctly, re-insert the yellow imaging unit, and cam the blue handle from the 12:00 to the 3:00 position. Does that help?

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the reply BC. I have one of the belt units i replaced in front of me. The post in back and the C bracket in front are intact. So is the cleaning unit. I put the cleaning unit on with the unit out of machine and it snaps right in. Is it possible to have the cleaner snap in without mating with the rear post? If so, can the machine run for several hundred copies before a problem occurs?

Absolutely Yes. Until I learned the trick it happened nearly every time. =^..^=

Thanks BC. It's easy to see the post in the tube with the yellow IU out. Since you're obviously a Toshiba ace, I figured you'd supply the answer. Thanks again.
