    tOSHIBA es-550

OK soooo this is a nightmare... Original service call was machine not coming to ready, called tech support and was told "bad Hard drive ". Got a new HDD I ordered from Hytec. Installed it and when I went to boot it up got a message "Reinstall the hard drive" checked and cleaned the connections. Still didn't see it. I noticed the jumper on the hard drive I got was not in the same position as the one I was installing, (don't know if this is relevant, just sayin ). I put the old one back in and tried to format it, FAILED tried update the firmware I have access to the toshiba tech site and there are at least 10 firmware packs that are for this machine with notes regarding VERSIONS. How do I know which version I have and which is the correct firmware for the unit I have. I got the newest version for the ES550 and Downloaded it took 30 min and tried to install it... By tried I mean I preformed the procedure outlined by the SM.
The process took over 3 hours at which time the message "UPDATE FAILED" appeared. I have now spent 5 hours with no success. I will be calling Hytec on Monday for advice and a new HDD. The one they sent me is NG but how should I proceed? All this said I have 3 questions I hope some of you can help with.
1)Can I just get the correct size and type HDD online?
2)How do I know what firmware I need for the machine I have?
3)How long should a firmware update take?
and lastly, at what point do I get a block of C4 and &^%$#%&*

    Thanks in advance

I would say it's C4 time now. The e550 is a really old box. I haven't worked on one in over 6 years. If you fix this problem you'll only get another one the next day. That's my 2 cents worth.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

Did you follow the procedure in the manual? I believe there are four pages of things to do on a successful installation. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
