    Toshiba E-Studio C4555cse

Can someone tell me how to adjust the leading edge position on the adf for this machine please?

The manual is extremely difficult to understand on this subject.

    Thanks

It's preferable to start with the print adjustments, before making scanner adjustments, then do the ADF adjustments, as described in the Adjustments section of the manual. But if you don't mind the results, it will be called Scanner SubScan Write Start. I think what you'll find is that it 's the Printer Subscan Write Start adjustment that is mis-adjusted.

I've noticed that sometimes the LCT Subscan Write Start will not adjust (or make any change at all) in 05-443 or 05-444, but if you adjust the LCT printer write start in 05-408 (which adjusts all paper sources simultaneously, then you can use 05-441 for tray #2, 05-441 for tray #1. Recheck those numbers in the manual. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Hello

The problem I have is only when I copy from the ADF. I get a black line down the leading edge of the paper and this aligns with the edge of the original (image is shifted to the right on the copy), so it looks like the ADF is not seeing the edge of the original correctly in the ADF.

I tried to look through the manual and do not see an adjustment related to this, but I am a new engineer.

I am also having a hard time understanding from the manual how to actually enter service mode and change settings, is there an idiots guide?

      Thanks

What you've described is an ADF adjustment, which should be done after the Printer and scanner adjustments. Frequently you'll find that it's the Printer adjustments that are out of whack, which will affect all adjustments that follow.

I can repeat it again if it will help. =^..^=

No, no, hehe... I am happy to do it the right way
I'll re-read that section of the manual and see if I can make sense of it...

          Thank you for the help.

Power Off > Hold 0 & 5 > Power ON > When it beeps you can release the 0 & 5 > ~3 minutes until it boots to 05 mode.

Toshiba is not like Canon. You won't get any cues from the service mode. You have to have the manual, have to know which numerical mode you want, have to know what it does. Canon's have text cues right in the service mode making it possible to wing it. You can't wing it on the Toshiba.

                Thanks for all the help...

On a LOT of further investigation it appears that the ADF is skewing the original... MOST of the time.. I have reset the adf position using the locating pins, checked all the mylar strips, made sure there are no obstructions and replaced the adf rollers (full set)...

It is STILL skewing most of the time, not every time now.. the skew is causing a small black line on the top left of copies where the scanner is seeing that edge of the paper...

Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

                Thanks

Check the document feeder height. If you look at the edge where the DF meets the scanner top at the left. Adjust the left hinge height so that you have an even 2mm to 3mm, same from the front to the back. Also check the ramp between the slit glass and the copyboard glass. If it becomes unstuck from the glass it can skew your originals.

You may want to disassemble the area just before the slit glass. Small foreign objects (like staples and paperclips) can skew your originals. =^..^=

                    Thanks...

A senior engineer went in, adjusted the registration position and it has apparently solved the problem.

                    Thanks for the help

Unlike what Black Cat said you can get into service mode while the machine is ON. Press round key that's labeled "user functions" then # 1048 #. Hold the # key until the screen changes to diagnostic. Press OK on touch screen and you can drill down to certain functions from there.
