    20171012_185212.jpg
What I have done so far:

    With the original HD
#1 tried to update the firmware, but the firmware does not finish the update due the HDD copy for second part never starts it finished the first part but the second never starts, see image below

    I purchased a new 80gb HD
    # 1 installed the HD and ran the firmware install and update
    - the HD update failed
    20171020_073830.jpg

At this point I cant even go anywhere with the machine becuase it says there was an incoplete HD update, I cant even access the 80 test mode

    Can anyone please help?

    - Is my old HD shot?
    - Does the new HD need to be formatted and partitioned? Fat32 vs Fat? any help appreciated. Also there is no jumper in the HD (both new and old)

    [F100] HDD format error
Format the HDD. (Key in "2" at 08-690.)
    Replace the HDD.

New HDD need to perform 3C mode before update firmware.

Hold "3+CLEAR" buttons then turn on machine. Select 3. Create loader partition.

Will this load with an incomplete firm ware install?

Because even 0 8 on start up does not get me to test mode

You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble if you had read a few pages in the manual before you started. There is a section that tells you exactly what to do.

Yes you can recover from this. Get the manual. Read the pages about "Precautions when installing a HDD". Keep in mind that you won't be able to do the first 4 or 5 steps, since you could only do all the steps if your HDD was still functioning. That makes no sense to me: Why would you change the HDD if it was still functioning.

In short, my advice is: Rather than continuing to wallow around, read the manual.=^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Do you know where I may find the service manual?

I did some research and the information is in the service hand book.

                  - problem is that I tried to install Firmware on the drive without following the procedure
                  1. I did not back anything up
                  2. As a result on start up the system says firmware failed to update (retry)
                  3. I cannot access test mode 80 hold on start up
                  4. I assume I cannot back anything up so I tried to skip to the next step. which is to hold 3-clear to get into the mode where you can pick option 3 for "All partition delete and create loader program"
                  - however when I try that with the old HD it says failed to initialize ?
                  - checked the cable with another cable in case there was a problem with the cable.

Yes, correct. You will not be able to recover any data from your old hard drive. That why I said: Keep in mind that you won't be able to do the first 4 or 5 steps, since you could only do all the steps if your HDD was still functioning. That makes no sense to me: Why would you change the HDD if it was still functioning.

Install the new HDD. Proceed with 3C-3, and following the instructions from there.

Good morning Blackcat4866, I want to start by saying I really appreciate your help. But I am still having a problem.

I installed the new HD and I get "initialize error" with the old HD it says the same thing.
I followed the step exactly, 3-clear then 3c start.

Next I just tried a normal start up with the new HD and it said 20171024_063249.jpg

What is the storage size of your usb drive?

According to manual, this dinosaur machine only accept 1GB usb drive. I've tried on 2GB kingston usb drive and it works. Make sure the usb drive is FAT formatted.

"Only the USB storage device which meets the following conditions should be used for updating. Be careful since updating with any device other than the above is never guaranteed.- A combination USB storage device with a flash memory (to be connected directly to the USB port) and its capacity is between 64 MB to 512 MB (or 1 GB)."

I am using a 2GB usb flash drive, there is no issues with the flash drive tho, my problem is PRE firmware update. The step where I need to do " delete all partition and create loader partition" . 3-clear and option 3C... It does not go past that. I get initialize failure.

Can it be the new HD?? Is there something specific I need??
