Trouble code C553...does one have this problem! I reset all connections the first time and it went away....lasted a month!

Are you sure about that error code? It doesn't show up at Printers Copiers Servicing - Reference Manual. under any Toshiba model. It makes me think there is no C553. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There was a bulletin about this issue shortly after the MR-4000 was released. It's caused by damage done to the board on the DSDF's CCD module. The fix is to replace the entire module with the updated version. I replaced several of these under warranty in the first year.Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?Comment

The fault is created by the CCD unit in the DSDF document feeder but can also damage the SYS-board (most common). I had this problem two times with different machines.
Be carefull to replace one at the time, because one can destroy the other. Good luck!Comment
