Our Toshiba E Studio 3508A does not automatically choose the correct size when scanning to email. How do we set the default to letter size?

When you use the document feeder, do the side guides touch the paper? I didn't think so. The machine uses the original guides to determine the paper width.
There's also a length sensor in the center of the original tray. If perchance someone were to tape a note to the original tray right over that length sensor the machine would always choose a longer paper size. The note might say "Don't stack extra originals on this tray." Yes, that's what the note said. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
