    toshiba es 3040c F106-0 error

Here's another one for puzzle solvers. Called to machine for c447, on arrival start screen was frozen. After power cycle, f106-0 showed up. The manual says an ADI-HDD was illegally replaced with a SATA-HDD. I find this highly unlikely. I tried various 3c & 4c formatting operations with no luck.

I ended up bringing a new hard drive and firmware that was kindly supplied by another forum member. I could get into the 3c & 4c modes to prep the partitions & formatting, which said it was successful. But when I tried to enter the 4,9 mode, it immediately went to the f106 code.

Fortunately they had another exact same machine. I tried the hd from that and it displayed an F106-5 code. I reseated the memory cards on the system board just in case, went back to playing with the original hd and the new one. No soap in any case. I don't know if it could be something that could come from a system board, or if some authentication info became corrupted. I wouldn't know how to replace that kind of software. As it is, I can't enter 08 or 4,9 to access or enter anything special to it.
If anyone has ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Another machine old model estudio 600 i think. Had something similar in the past, check fuser unit connector and its mating inside machine for proper connection and nothing stuck between them.

Start dropping strong hints to the customer that it is time to replace their copier.

You are better off losing this customer rather than trying to keep a long ago discontinued copier going. You are filling you your head with discontinued copier tech specs.

Probably the system board. And re-install the original HDD.

Better yet dig that hole behind the garage. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If System board, the copier is toast.

If HDD, I do not think Toshiba stocks the old 3.5" HDDs anymore.

Thanks for your replies. I was afraid that would be the case. As you all know "the customer knows best". Will try & ease them into the decision. Fortunately they have another exact same machine to use.

There is a complex procedure that needs to be followed if you plan on swapping main boards and HDDs.

Unless this customer is high volume and you are making a lot of money on click charges, do yourself a favor. Give the customer a quote on a new copier and move on.

Customer do not always know what is best. They often need a copier tech to tell them that the time has come to look at a new copier.

They trust techs more than salespeople to tell them their old copier is done.

You need to leave the copier down for an extended period of days to make sure the customer gets the hint.

100% agree. It is not a simple task to swap a used System Board in. Discourage this course of action. =^..^=
